My name is Carolyn Downey, and I am a Sophomore at Hingham High School. I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old and it is my dream to play at the college level. Growing up, I competed in many different sports including soccer, lacrosse, track, and gymnastics, but as I got older my love for and focus on soccer grew. With focus, commitment, and a lot of hard work, I have continuously improved as a player and earned opportunities to play at the highest level. I am currently a member of the 2008 Girls Academy team at the South Shore Select soccer club.
I am a technical and strong physical player with solid footwork, passing ability, and a powerful shot. I enjoy practicing with my team, but I also work on my own to improve my skills, fitness, and strength. I participate in invite-only soccer training, speed, and weight training programs. I am very coachable and seek feedback from my coaches and teammates. I love being part of a team, and I enjoy that I’ve gained so many great friends from outside of my town and school community through soccer.
I also work hard and have success in the classroom. Throughout most of my life, I’ve balanced my commitment to both academics and athletics. I’ve developed important time management skills in that process.
Through travel for various soccer tournaments, I’ve had the opportunity to visit a number of college campuses. At this point I am open to many options, but ultimately I want to find a college that is the right fit for me in both the classroom and on the field.
