My life has always revolved around soccer. My grandfather played professionally so when I was born, it was a given that I would be playing as soon as I could walk . I started officially playing when I was 3, and fell in love. I played in the rec league until I was old enough to play travel soccer with my town, then started playing club, eventually moving on to the high school varsity team and playing club at a more elite level.
I was never one of the players that stood out to coaches. Not in a “she’s not a great player" way, more in a “quiet and reserved, falling between the cracks” kind of way. It made me question my dedication because my teammates were getting praised for the same things that I was doing. Then I started playing goalie and I was in a position where I had control and I was good. I could control the field and how I trained, and my ability to read the field was a huge asset. There were very few, but very important coaches along the way that noticed and helped me find my voice . Even though goalkeeper can be a very isolating position at times, learning how to come out of my shell and stop falling between the cracks, has allowed me to become stronger and more confident in my position on and off the field.
