Sophie Scerbin '22 Recruiting Profile

Hi,

My name is Sophie Scerbin, I am currently a well-rounded and engaged Junior at Westborough High School in Massachusetts. I have played soccer since I could walk. A little late to the game, in seventh grade, I decided I wanted to commit to more than just a town soccer program. I had been a nationally competitive ski racer but realized I wanted to channel my drive and athleticism into my soccer game instead. 

At first, I didn't succeed. I tried out for a club and didn't make it, I was very upset and emailed the coach and asked if there was any way I could be a practice player. I was determined to get better, focus on technique and strategy, and make bold gains to qualify for the team the following year. After all the hard work and commitment, the following year I made it. The accomplishment of that hard work and focused intention is where my soccer journey started.

Working towards and achieving goals is one of the most rewarding accomplishments to me. My goal is to become the very best player I can be while I pursue developing new skills on and off the field. I also strive to grow stronger both mentally and physically through the game.  At my core, I want to be the best teammate, friend, and student I can be and encourage and inspire others.   

I think I am different from other candidates because I have always had a growth mindset and commitment to pursue mastery through sweat, time, and tactical learning. I am fully committed and I have the hunger needed to push myself to the highest level possible. Not only with athletics but also in my academics and my character. I consider myself an approachable and positive person who is not afraid of hard work, responsibility, and challenges.  All in all, I want to learn from others and experiences and make memories that will last forever.
