Currently I am a sophomore at Beatrice Southeast Community College in Nebraska. I was a starter both years in the regular season and off-season. I’m wanting to transfer to a four year to continue my soccer career. I will be receiving an Associates of Arts degree and then transferring to major in Psychology (Sports). My current GPA is 3.8.
I first started competing in soccer at the age of 5 in a league at our local YMCA. I found that I never really got tired of the sport. I find sports interesting whether it’s playing with my teammates or watching it on television.
From a young age I always wondered what it might be like to play for a college soccer team. I believe my accountability, time management and love for soccer assist me in being a dependable team player for a college team. In academics I hold myself accountable for getting my homework done before competing in: cross country, soccer and other activities. My freshmen and sophomore years I struggled trying to balance 3 sports, show choir and student activities. I had two grades that slipped. But I learned from that experience and have changed my study habits and approach to my studies. For example, I make schedules for what I need to get done. Planning things out helps so I’m not as stressed about what needs to be done for my classes or approaching project deadlines. Now I’m not afraid to ask for help in the classroom or at practice.
I believe my hard work ethic sets me a part from other soccer players. As an athlete and a student I try to improve as much as possible and listen to my teachers and coaches in all of my sports. Whether it means arriving early or staying later after school or my sports practices. Through school and sports I have learned you have to work individually outside of the classroom and practice to improve. I believe I could compete as a collegiate student and athlete; if that means I have to work extra hard for it, I am up for that challenge. I am devoted to developing into a better player on and off the field.
