Personal Statement

My name is Jordan Smith and I am 16 years old and am the starting goalkeeper for my club team, South Tahoe Futbol Club Hawks/U-19 and the U-17 Outlaws as well as my high school, Douglas High. I have been playing as the clubs starting goalkeeper, playing at a level 3 years above my age group. I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old and have been the starting keeper for the last two years. My goal is to play at the college level as goalkeeper while pursuing my degree in Biomedical Sciences. I currently have a 3.8 GPA and am enrolled in Honors English right now. I am a member of our Varsity Club, Block D, and we work to get donations to help food drives and scholarships. I am also a teen youth counselor at a grief support group, the Douglas Center for Hope and Healing, where I facilitate a monthly teen grief support group. I am currently in China teaching English at a summer camp for the month of July. I am a leader both off and on the field and my teammates look to me to help lead the team. I have played as a guest player in Las Vegas for their Thanksgiving Classic for the last two years. I have most recently returned from Phoenix from the ODP tournament for the State of Nevada 2001 team, as well as the Players Showcase in Las Vegas most recently.

I am the starting goalkeeper for the South Tahoe Futbol Club u-19 Hawks. We are a competitive club mostly comprised of college freshmen. I have been with this club for the last year as their starting goalkeeper. We most recently played at the Juventus tournament in San Francisco and are headed to Las Vegas in two weeks for the Players Showcase.

AwardsI have been on honor roll every semester since 7th grade. I was a member of the Junior National Honor Society in middle school. I have recently been inducted into the National Honor Society. I am a 6 time recipient of the MeFiY http://mefiyi.org/ award, Me For Incredible Youth, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote, encourage, and support Nevada student athletes, created by former New York Jets JoJo Townsell.
ActivitiesI am a peer youth counselor at the Douglas Center for Hope & Healing. We offer grief support to teens who have lost someone close to them. I facilitate a group once a month. I have also worked extensively with the Solace Tree, another grief support group. I have been actively involved in grief support groups since my dad died when I was in 2nd grade at the age of 8. I also volunteer for Block D, our Varsity Club. I have been elected a board member for the 2018-2019 year by the other Varsity athletes. We solicit donations of food and money to provide food around the holidays as well as scholarship money to student athletes. I will be traveling to China this summer to teach English at a summer camp for 5 weeks.
