Hello my name is Hannah Faulkner and I am currently a senior at Laurens Central School in Laurens New York. I have been playing soccer since I was 4 years old and it has had a very large impact on the person I am today. Since I have started playing soccer I have been tasked with many responsibilities, such as becoming a captain on the team. Being a captain you are held to a higher standard than the average player, a standard that I believe I held with the highest respect I could. I have been given many opportunities to showcase my skills and my leadership abilities such as being a part of the Section VI all-star team several times and being allowed to have amazing opportunities to play in Barcelona, Spain. This taught me the value of hard work and determination for the sport I have loved since childhood.
My participation in sports has had a significant impact on my life. It has taught me about leadership, teamwork, dedication to something, and how my actions have an impact on a situation. Playing sports has given me a chance to get to know myself better and a better understanding of how a team should operate. Every team goes through at "storming" phase and we have to work together and apply ourselves for the benefit of the team to get to our "norming" phase. I believe that having a knowledge on how to work together for the benefit of not only myself but for an entire team will help me tremendously in life and as I start a new phase by going to college. I believe that using this will help me succeed on any team that I will be a part of and will give me a good foundation for my career goals in my sports career.
My sports career has had a very influential and great impact on my family. When I refer to family I am not just talking about my biological family, I am referring to them as well as my team. My biological family has been very supportive in all of my sports career, but the teams I have been a part of have acted as a second family. My family has pushed me to do great thing with my sports career and have given me the drive I needed to get me through tough situations during play. Family is the most important influence that you will ever have, whether that is during sports or just everyday life, your family is her every step of the way. You get to know yourself better being part of something bigger than yourself and sports are a great way to fulfill that hole. You can turn to your family for anything and that being said they can turn to you for anything. My family is bigger than a normal persons, it consists of more than just my mom, dad, and siblings, it consists of every team that I have ever been a part of. They will always be family no matter what.
