My name is Vanessa Jorgensen. I am a junior at South Glens Falls High School and I hope to play college soccer. I have played organized soccer since kindergarten, club soccer since sixth grade, and varsity since my freshmen year. I have loved the sport ever since I have played it and want to bring that love and my competitive drive to the next level. I found that as the game became more competitive I enjoyed it more, and I found myself thinking about the game off the field; about tactics and ways I could play better and ways my team could work better as a unit. This is when I decided I wanted to play college soccer.
I have not always been a leader with my voice, but have been told by coaches and teammates that my team play, work ethic and fearlessness set the tone for the team. Strangely, I think my favorite moment in soccer was not a varsity league championship but a loss at the JV level, because I was instrumental in a near-comeback from a 5 goal halftime deficit. This proved to me for the first time that focusing on playing the right way is always the right call, regardless of the circumstances, a lesson I have brought to the higher levels in both soccer and basketball.
Over the many years of playing competitive soccer year-round I have learned how to balance both my academic and athletic life. My position as one of the top students in my class is not something that has changed as my soccer training has gotten more rigorous and my classes have gotten more challenging. Despite the number of AP classes I take or the level I am playing at, I always strive to be the best teammate and student I can be, and I believe I can bring this to the collegiate level.
