Hello Coaches, my name is Avery Baker. I am 17 years old and graduate in 2024, I have been playing soccer since I was 4. Since then I have grown to be passionate about the game and my favourite team is the Chelsea Football Club although I follow several other teams from both the male and female game. I often look to those national and pro players to base my game off of.
As I have gotten older, I have come to realize that hard work, determination and passion are characteristics that will help me achieve my goals in soccer, especially as a small player. I dream of playing for a top-level school with a great team environment. I'm at my best when I have the support of my teammates and coaches and I always strive to prove myself to them in return. On the field, I play double my size, have very good technical ability and even though I am left-foot dominant I am just as good with my right foot. I try my best to be a leader on and off the field and strive to be a positive example all the while encouraging my teammates. As well, I am always open to learning new things in order to improve the weaknesses of my game.
Off the field, I am a well-rounded person who excels at school and is involved in my local community. I have a 3.8 GPA and won the grade 9 geography award. In addition, I made the grade 9, 10 and 11 Honour Roll. Furthermore, I volunteer at a program called Embracing Ability, which is run through my old club at the Burlington Youth Soccer Club (BYSC), which helps teach children with disabilities how to play soccer. My efforts were recognized with being awarded the inaugural Embracing Ability H.J. Wicke Volunteer Award in 2022. In addition to that at my school I am apart of the Best Buddies program which helps run events every week for the Life Skills program. I have also assisted in my community with the Gift of Giving, which supports our local food bank. My love for soccer has led to employment with BYSC as a coach and mentor for U4-U6 House League Programs and working full time for their summer camp program.
I am open to all opportunities as I would like to find the best-fitting college or university that will challenge me academically and athletically. Overall, I aspire to play at the highest level and continue to work at becoming the best version of myself.
Thank you for your consideration.
