Personal Statement

My name is Julia Martins and here is a bit about me ...

  • Since I was young, I was taught that academics always come first, so that is my top priority. I want to major in Biochemistry to get into Med school and become a Pediatrician. I've always wanted to be a doctor and I love working with children, plus, people tell me I'm good at it. I work hard in school and complete my assignments days before the due date so that I have free time.
  • I've always been an athletic person in general. I've played a multitude of sports throughout my life and I always like to keep busy. In my free time, I like to keep active, whether that's going for a walk or run, playing volleyball or basketball with my sibling and kids on the street, watching a game that's on the tv, or going out to the field and getting an individual training in, I like to do something with my neverending energy.
  • Most of my soccer career was played with boys. Here I learned to play the ball quickly and focused mostly on the technical side of the game. Being a girl playing with boys, I had to work a lot harder to fit in and have a spot on the team. I would train every day, watch youtube videos, and watch EPL, MLS, and La Liga games to become a better, smarter player. Once I turned 13, I was no longer allowed to play with the boys and moved to my current team, Dixie Soccer Club. At first, it was difficult to adjust to playing with girls. It was slower, less technical, and much more physical. Over the past three years, I've learned to love the women's game. I thrive on the competitiveness and physicality in each training and match.
  • I would say I'm the player that spreads energy and hypes everyone up before playing so that we're all ready to give it our best. I like to keep things light and make my teammates laugh, especially before high-stress games. Although I'm not a captain, I'm still vocal and a strong presence on the field. When it comes to training, whether it's a zoom call or a team session, I'm always engaged and enjoy answering and asking questions.

  • The reason I want to play collegiate level soccer is because I love the sport so much and it has become my life. Playing in the States has been a goal of mine since I first started playing because I know the competition is a lot better than that of Canadian universities and competitive environments are where I thrive. I've worked very hard throughout the years, preparing to play for a college that is competitive both athletically and also academically so I believe I'd be a great asset to any team.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
