From a young age of 4 years old, my parents got me involved in many sports (from skiing, soccer, hockey to swimming) along with maintaining strong academics. I've continued playing school and club sports ever since and currently love playing soccer, field hockey and ice hockey. The highlight of soccer was when I made it on the varsity team in my freshman year, scored the most goals and our team defeated a team who had not lost a game against any other team in the last 8 years. Importantly, we played as a team, persevered and supported each other. My motivation for success was greatly attributed to the ongoing feedback and encouragement from my coach and teammates.
As well as interest in sports, I enjoy volunteering in the community. I had the great opportunity to go on a medical/dental mission to Guatemala. It was a huge satisfaction and motivational to see the smiles on the faces after receiving the treatment they waited so long for. I was part of a team that worked long days but I enjoyed every moment and looked forward to going back this summer; however, the mission was cancelled due to COVID. I am currently volunteering for this organization and will travel back to Guatemala once travel restrictions are lifted. I also travelled to Ecuador in December 2019 for a service mission where we built homes and a fresh water system. Also during my gap year, I have an opportunity for personal growth doing research in the cardiology department at Toronto General Hospital, Ontario, Canada. From these experiences, I developed a strong interest in a field where I can help people and also learn about different cultures.
From participating in several varsity sports, prefect duties. playing the flute in Winds, leader of the environmental club and the editor of the yearbook, this has given me the important skill of time management which will be valuable in university and in life. Multi-sports has also helped me develop different skill sets like positioning and game plays. I'm looking for a school that is strong academically and where I can continue athletics. I believe I have the talent to compete for your team and also I have the determination, work ethics, and leadership skills to play an important role in your program.
