As a soccer player, I bring a competitiveness and determination to the game. I love to play and compete against others. I developed this competitive mindset when I decided to play at a high performance level. I knew that I was making a huge commitment, not just to myself but also to my team, so I wanted to make sure I was always giving it my all. It was through playing in high performance that I grew as a person, not just a player. One of the experiences that helped me grow the most was when my team and I lost in our provincial championship game. We had won nearly every game that season, and had given it our all, but we weren’t able to bring home the trophy. It was then that I learned to be proud of the things you already accomplished instead of regretting the things you lost. I recognized that we had been extremely fortunate to in the championship game, and that we had a lot to be proud of. It was through this experience that I also learned the value of team work and supporting one another. Even in the worst moment of our season, my team came together and we all supported one another, with the promise we would be back in this position again.
As a person, I bring a lot of humour to the people around me. I believe in having fun while working hard, so that I can enjoy my time with others. When I am out with my friends, I enjoy being in the moment and cherishing the events happening around me. Integrity is very important to me; I treat everyone around me with respect and kindness. I have always prided myself on being a friend that others can speak to without feeling judgement. I think it is very important to understand that other people may be struggling with something, and that a little bit of kindness can go a long way. I like being surrounded by a small group close friends who understand me and are supportive of the aspirations I have. Many of my friends at school are also athletes, so we have formed a close bond as we understand each other’s busy schedules and struggles.
I started playing soccer when I was 5 years old as an activity, and I have been playing ever since. One of the reasons I got into it was because I wasn’t the best figure skater. I ended up falling in love with it and it has become a constant and reliable staple in my life, sort of like a hand or an arm. I want to play at a post secondary level so that I can continue to grow as a player and to spend my time around this game that I love so much. Quite frankly, I love to play. Some of my greatest memories and best friends have been made due to soccer, and I would like to continue meeting new people and making these memories at a competitive level.
