My name is Michaela Marenchin. I am apart of the class of 2022 at École Secondaire Catholique E.J Lajeunesse. I aspire to play post-secondary soccer. I don't exactly have any preference as to where I'd like to go but going away and having the experience of a totally new atmosphere has always been intriguing to me. Another goal I have is to finish four years of university and possibly study for a PhD in neuroscience. So to me a school that will challenge me academically is just as important to me as a school that will challenge me athletically.
I've always been described as someone who never gives up. My parents have always been enthusiastic when it came to sports. They put me and my sister in every sport you can imagine, gymnastics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, track and field, dance. All kinds of things but the one that stuck with me was soccer. I started my soccer career playing house league at the age of 6. After two years of that I decided to join a local travel team, the Windsor Soccer Club. I played there for one year, the team folded after that first year. After that I played the next year with Ciociaro Soccer Club. This team also folded after one year, so me and my close friend travelled to Tecumseh Soccer Club. We attended the open tryouts and I found myself in a totally different situation than the last two. A few weeks later I found out I made what was called the B team. There was so many girls they had made two teams, an A team and a B team. Obvious enough, all the most skilled players were on the A team. I've always had this drive to be the best, I knew I was put in the right spot but I also knew I'd do everything to make that team. I started practicing double the amount of my teammates. I would attend the B team practice and then right after make my way for some extra training time with the A team. I was attending at least 5-6 practices a week. I was clearly the least skilled player there but I was looking for a challenge and I got it. It took me over a year to finally be called up to AP in a tournament for the A team. At that tournament I set a considerably high goal for myself, I told myself I wanted to be a key facteur to our victories. If that was with leadership, ball work or my ability to score, it didn't matter. I wanted to show my coach that I belonged on this team. We finished that tournament as bronze medalists, I scored the game winning goal in our bronze medal match and bonded with the girls on the team. Shortly after, the coach decided to have me be permanently on their roster.
I still play for this team to date. Through out the 6 years that I've been here, I've developed as a player and a person a ton. I've always been a leader on and off the pitch. I get along with all of my teammates very well and I make sure I can be an outlet for anyone. It's always came very naturally to me, but three years after that, I was named team captain. Being captain has not only helped me in my soccer career but also in my life outside of soccer. It's taught me to be responsible and to be vulnerable, which I think are two very important qualities to have as a person.
Some of my other athletic achievements include: Top scorer for club team last season, top scorer at OFSAA Soccer 2019, Gold medal at OFSAA Basketball 2019, Silver medal at OFSAA Basketball 2018, Quarter finals at OFSAA Volleyball 2020, athlete of the year award every year since grade 8.
As for my academics, I time manage very well, I rarely need to miss practice for school work. I don't struggle in balancing the two. I maintained a 4.0 GPA in my sophomore year. I've previously mentioned my interest in neuroscience which takes a lot of hard work. In my junior year I'm currently taking all three sciences, two language courses, advanced functions and two university courses (kinesiology and human development). Ever since grade 8 I've been an honour roll student.
