Hi, my name is Rosalind Canty. I am a 5’6, 135 pound, 16 year old junior at Sandwich Secondary School in Windsor, Ontario Canada. I have been playing soccer since I was 3 years old, and was born into a family of athletes. My mother is a world champion boxer who is in the sports hall of fame, while my father was her coach. I play the entire game for the 03 Eastside kickers soccer team while being an 04. Over the years, I have played under many different coaches, for many teams, in many places.
I know that I will excel in university because I have been to Texas, North Carolina, Arizona, Florida, Vancouver, Toronto, and Michigan for soccer. When I went to Vancouver, I had to leave all of my family behind to go play with a team I had never met, which is what I will be doing for university. Of course I was nervous at first, but once I got on the field I played phenomenally. I am very good at being resilient and not letting circumstances affect my game of play. We later found out that 32 players from the 20 teams would be chosen to play in a final game of Distinction. They would be the players that stood out as having the best leadership skills, confidence, and work ethic. Although I didn’t know anyone, I played my heart out and was chosen to play in the final game.
I am not known as a midfielder who will get caught too high in the play. I play very defensively and if I do push up, always make it my number one priority to get back. I will do everything humanely possible to stop the opponent from scoring, and when I go into a tackle I am very strong on the ball. I have extremely good timing when sticking slide tackles, as well as a very strong upper body for shoulder to shoulder due to all of my training in boxing. I train 5 days a week in soccer (one of those being a calm shooting and footwork practice) and 3 days a week in boxing workouts, so I do not tire easily.
I am a very intelligent student who is lucky to have the majority of subjects come fairly easy. All of my marks for grade 11 are above a 92% as of this moment, and I have a 4.0 gpa. I have been looking into what career I would want to have, and recently have been really interested in firefighting. I have 2 honour roll awards, and 2 sport related awards for school.
I hope to find universities that are a good match for me athletically, as well as academically. I am very exited for the opportunities to come, and can’t wait to enhance my knowledge in school and on the pitch.
