I’m Ireland Templeton, a multisport athlete in the class of 2025 with ambitions to play soccer at the collegiate level. I currently play soccer, wrestling, fastpitch softball, and dance, but I also have experience in competitive shooting and basketball. I was voted as a team captain for my high school soccer team my Freshman, Sophomore and Junior years. Participating in athletics has highlighted valuable personal traits I have including being self-motivated and leadership. I love competing, I’m coachable, and I do whatever it takes to support my team. Although I’ve spent my soccer career playing in a defender or midfielder position, when my 2022 varsity high school soccer team needed a goalkeeper, I stepped up and did the job. At the end of my Freshman, Sophomore and Junior soccer seasons I was awarded “Best Teammate” twice and received the coaches award. At the end of my Sophomore season of wrestling I was awarded “Hardest Worker” and this year I made the championship match at 145 while helping my team win it's 3rd straight State Girls Wrestling Championship. Playing team sports has allowed me to make lifelong friendships and collaborate with others towards a mutual goal, and participating in an individual sport like wrestling has made me an even better athlete and person. In addition, participating in wrestling has pushed me to be more of an advocate for women in sports because of its newness in South Dakota. Excelling in academics has always been extremely important to me and as a multisport athlete, I balance my time well between academics, community service and athletics.
