My name is MiKayla Wozniak, I am a soccer player. When I was a child my parents tried putting me in different sports, I failed. Then they found soccer, and that became my first love, even at that early age. I've been playing soccer since I was 4 years old, I started playing in Friedburg, Germany, as I was born in Germany. My father is active duty US Army. As I was growing up I dreamed about being Mia Hamm and being like her. I had her posters all over my room and I watched her play as much as possible. She was my idol. I dreamed of playing for the Women's US Soccer team. Now, that I'm older and not child, I realized that Mia Hamm is a wonderful idol and played her way, But I needed to become my own idol, and have my own dreams of going to college and playing my sport. I needed to make and set my own goals, and dreams, and not try to live under Mia Hamm's. My goals have been to become a strong minded, strong willed, coachable, respectful and trustworthy kind of player. I believe in myself, my abilities, and my skills, because I work hard, train harder, and I love my sport. I have accomplished my goals that I set in soccer by being placed on varsity my sophomore year, named Offensive MVP my junior year, and I made 2nd team all district. This year, I have different goals, it's my goal to be team captain and offensive MVP again. Soccer has given me joys, strength, and courage. Along with soccer, I love tae kwon do. I am a 1st Dan Black Belt. I started tae kwon do, in 2008 at the urging of my younger brother, who is a 2nd Dan Black Belt. Tae kwon do has taught me so much self confidence, self control, spirit, and determination, these are things that helped shape me into the athlete I am today.. I was determined to compete in the 2010 US Junior Olympics even though I had a broken foot. I was determined to compete because I worked hard to get there, and I wasn't going to give in and quit because of my injury, I fought through the pain, and competed. Although, I did not place or receive a medal, I learned something more valuable, that it's not about the medal or the win, it's about that indomitable spirit I had with in. I have been the Mississippi state grand champion, I've won numerous medals ranging from gold to bronze. All those medals and trophies sit proudly in my room, because it reminds me everyday not to give up, keep moving forward, and to reach for my goals. I dream of playing college level soccer, I love the smell of the field, the fresh cut grass, to include my stinky cleats, I love the cold crisp air on my face. Love knowing that this field is where I'm most comfortable and at home, and that this is me! I am a soccer player. All that stands between myself and my goals is me, I've learned that this year. I've learned the importance of grades, and what it takes. I know I'm behind the "power curve", but I know I can make myself proud in the end if I get that chance. I've learned to believe in myself, because my parents can only believe so much. I aspire to become a athletic trainer, so I'm not far from my comfort zone of that beautiful green field.
