Skyla Valdez '21 Recruiting Profile

Hi, my name is Skyla Valdez and I would like to introduce myself! I am 18 years old and a Senior at Lufkin HS. I play varsity soccer for Lufkin  HS. I have been a varsity team member since 9th grade and I play forward/ OB. I became a starter as a freshman and was awarded the Top Scorer award and was honorable mention on the All-District team. I also play for Challenge 02/03 Red club team in the United Soccer Club League Houston Division. The schedule includes many of the top ranked teams in south Texas. I often get matched up against some of the best players in the state.  I attend one or more soccer camps with college coaches in the summer and have played in multiple college showcase tournaments .  

I am a very good student and take my education pretty seriously. I am not 100% decided on my major, but it will likely be something like Exercise Science, Athletic Trainer or Physical Therapy . While I am a good student, I do have a lot of friends that are important to me. I am also involved in community activities.  For example, I'm a member of the Angelina Beautiful Clean and have volunteered to clean up litter from the side of the highway as my dad's work adopted a 2 mile stretch of highway.

I also enjoy giving back to the soccer community. I volunteered to be the assistant coach for the U10 Boys soccer team.  I reached out to our club soccer President and asked how I could volunteer. He pointed me towards the rec age group coordinator and that person assigned me to a team in need of a assistant coach. 

I plan to consider colleges that are a good match for me academically.  I am very passionate about soccer and if that works out also, that would be great!  I'm currently practicing with my club soccer team , playing high school soccer and I'm successfully able to manage academics and soccer.  I love it and I know I will continue to love it in once in college as well.
