Hello, my name is Maria Girbacea and I am in my Senior year of high school. I started to swim competitively when I was seven years old and I have never stopped since. Whenever I am in the water either during practice or a meet I know that, that is my time to do what I love the most and do my best. Swimming has given me many opportunities in life. I have met some of the most amazing teammates and friends, I have been coached by the best coaches, I have made many memories I will never forget and it allowed me to realize that I want to continue this sport in the future.
I have dreamed of continuing swimming in college and attending a college where I can feel as if I am part of a family. I want to not only continue to work hard on my strokes and improve my times but meet new people and be an excellent teammate while being a part of that family. As much as I love swimming, I also try to do my best in school with keeping a 4.0 GPA.
With the many issues of COVID-19, I was unable to swim for a couple months. During those months, I realized how swimming is such a huge part of my life. I continued to workout on zoom with my teammates to stay in shape and later started practice in June. Getting back in the water never felt any better and I was extremely happy to start club swimming once again.
