Why I truly want to swim in college. I have loved to be in the water for as long as I can remember. Learned how to set high goals and working towards them has challenged me not only to be a better athlete but a better person. Swimming helps with learning more about yourself and about life. For example, being able to communicate with others and assist others when they need help. I love swimming because the swimming community is like a family and has given me some of my closest friends. It has also always been my safe and stable personal place, helping me through all the life’s tough times. Setting a league record in the 200IM as a sophomore was really fun, but being able to share it with my family and teammates made it a very special experience. I would like to have many more new experiences and gain the skills to successfully guide children one day. Hopefully as a swim coach.
Throughout most of my life, the one thing that I always enjoyed was being active. I was the type that would love to run and play outside no matter what the weather. As I grew older, I went through multiple sports trying to find the right one for me, basketball, gymnastics and track. Finally, at the age of six, I was influenced by my older sister to swim. I finally found my sport. With no room in the local novice swimming program, I joined an age group swimming club instead. I was the type of little kid who would jump into the water with no fear. As I grew, I became a very competitive person and loved to compete with anyone. Swimming was my time to have competition. I learned to appreciate that took both technique and strength to move forward and get faster. After swimming for 11 years I have grown to completely love and adore swimming.
How I can be an asset to the team? I love to learn new things about myself through swimming. I have learned that when you have solid preparation you then have the opportunity to compete hard and have fun. I am not just a one stroke type swimmer, I love to do any stroke and any distance. I enjoy swimming the individual medley the most because it shows that you need to have good balance in every stroke to finish the race. You need to work at every stroke and improve everything that you can, I love that challenge.
I am currently interested in being a counselor or a physical education teacher. Presently I don't really have any specific collage/university I would like to go to, I just want to be able to feel comfortable and feel like I am at home while being in college. I am a senior and currently have about a 4.0 GPA. Moving toward graduation I am hoping to have a good end to my high school years both athletically and academically.
I hope that I can help support your team and be a great new addition. I will strive to become a successful person, graduate college with a degree and have amazing memories moving toward adulthood.
