Since I was born, we have moved five times, and it has not been easy living as a military child. I spent 2015-2020 swimming for Nations Capital (NCAP) Club at the National Prep and National level. We moved to Hawaii in 2020 because my Dad is now a Civilian in the Department of Defense. We are scheduled to live in Hawaii for three years before we move again, and if all goes well, I will move before they do, to college. We have settled in Hawaii, and by chance, we were able to continue to swim with the Hickam Hurricanes as they were the only club swimming and still are. My times have significantly improved, but we have not held any official meets, and it looks like it will be October 2021 before we do. I am scheduled to take the SAT in October 2021 too.
I am blessed to have parents that provided sound advice, which constructed the moral framework in which I live my life. My parents lived by three basic rules: always tell the truth, do the jobs right the first time, and know you are 100% accountable for your actions. It became clear to me that to diverge from these rules could tarnish my image and send the wrong message to others. I understood that making mistakes was a part of life, but not learning from my mistakes could prove disastrous. My parents' rules established the guidelines for my life. This framework has guided me to strive for excellence in school and in the water. Pursuing swim at the collegiate level is one of my goals, but my number one goal is to complete not only my Bachelor's Degree but my Master's Degree. I am beginning to narrow down what I want to study, and I know my long term goal is to become part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation or Central Intelligence Agency.
Like all athletes, I would love to earn a swimming scholarship, and I realize this isn't easy. However, I am up to the task. I will work hard every day to earn it as a tremendous contributor to the team, consistently setting and adhering to the highest standards and encouraging others to achieve more than they think possible. My parents have supported me from day one, and we do have a backup plan if I do not receive a scholarship through the GI Bill and Veterans support. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to apply for a collegiate swim program, and I believe it is the next step to developing me as a better teammate, woman, and leader. The benefit that I will receive from my additional education is beneficial and important in today's world, as we are faced with more diverse challenges. I will approach my student and swim opportunities like all the other opportunities in my career, full steam ahead, and as a chance to continue growing and maturing not only myself but my teammates and friends.
