Growing up, I tried many different sports, from dancing, to gymnastics, to softball. When I was 10, I wanted to become a synchronized swimmer, but wound up joining the park district swim team in my town. Immediately I fell in love with swimming. The water became my second home, and my teammates a second family. From the time I joined my first club team, I knew that I wanted to pursue swimming in high school and college. Even now, my love for swimming is so strong that I help coach the younger children on my club team.
This sport has taught me the values of hard work and determination. I have learned that the only way to improve is to constantly push myself and give my all, even when no one is looking. I apply these values to my education as well. At school I maintain a high GPA and am able to balance multiple AP and honors classes with the demands of my swim team and job. My future coaches will be able to depend upon me to balance my collegiate responsibilities the same.
In college, I hope to find a community in the swim team. It is important for me to have teammates that I can call friends in and out of the pool. Additionally, I hope to find a coach that can push my limits and help me reach my fullest potential as an athlete.
