Hi Coaches! My name is Amber Goldhagen and as cheesy and cliché as it sounds, I’ve been dreaming of swimming in college since I learned what NCAA stood for. Since learning to swim at 5 years old, the pool has become my second home and I love everything about the sport. The shiny medals are great of course. But it’s the early morning 6am practices and hour long sprint sets that really cement my passion for the water. However, those grueling but rewarding practices wouldn’t be quite as enjoyable without my teammates by my side struggling with me—the seemingly instant camaraderie and life long friendships forged are just one of the aspects of collegiate swimming that have always appealed to me. As much as I love swimming, I am still a student first, athlete second, and I’m looking for a school that can challenge me academically as equally as it can athletically. Computer science is and has been my preferred field of study for many years since I bought my first iPod Touch. I’m a tech geek at heart and writing code to solve the world’s problems is my dream career. I’ve done everything I can to set myself up for the best possible college experience. I’ve taken and excelled in all of the honors and AP classes my schedule can accommodate. I’ve done all of the countless hours of studying and homework. I try my best in every single class even if the subject material doesn’t particularly interest me. My commitment to stellar academics is second to none. On the swimming side of things, I am at practice every single session. During winter club season, I swim 2 hours a day, 6 days a week. High School season is even more, 6 days a week, plus meets, plus early morning doubles twice a week. I also lift outside of swimming, usually 2-3 times a week, focusing on explosiveness, speed, and overall strength. My work ethic is the quality I hold in the highest regard as well as my attention to detail, which apply to both swimming and school. I’m always making miniscule adjustments to my technique and always finding a stronger verb for that essay. I love this sport with my entire heart and am prepared to give the team my all to succeed.
