Earning a black belt in karate has had a major influence on my life and the persona I am today. It has taught me perseverance, drive, and dedication at an early age, (age 8-10). Starting competitive swimming at age 11 has taught me that I have to work harder than most to achieve my goals. I have always been attracted to the water since the day I was born. It didn't matter whether it was the bathtub, kitchen sink, or the pool. I became interested in swimming at age 5 when I started swimming for my neighborhood summer rec team. I did not think I could swim a 25 free until my mom literally shoved me in the water and I proved to myself that I could. I still look back on that story for encouragement.
Swimming has taught me that hard work pays off. I have learned that I am capable of much more than I give myself credit for. I am learning to reach higher goals both in the water and out of the water. I am learning that at every level and goal that is achieved, that there is always something more to go after. College swimming will encourage me to keep finding new goals to pursue. My main high school goal is to help my team achieve top 3 in IHSA and achieve NCSA time standards. The largest obstacle I have had to overcome with competitive swimming would be starting 4 years later than most of my teammates. I was constantly having to play catch-up. I still have a lot to learn and a lot of room to grow.
Outside of the water, I would like to maintain a 4.3 GPA or higher throughout high school and continue receiving the Academic All-Conference award. I would also like to keep my membership in the scholar athletes club at St. Charles North. My many unique characteristics and talents are that I am extremely funny, kind, loyal, giving, supportive, and compassionate. I am a great teammate, and I work well with others. I am looking forward to learning about the next stage of my life.
