Dear Coach,
My name is Tori Nichles. I am 17 years old and in my senior year of high school. I love the sport of swimming! I’ve been competitively swimming for 11 years. It’s been a long journey to get to where I am now. My family has moved multiple times, I’ve changed coaches and swim teams 4 times, various techniques, and the way I compete have adjusted with every move. This has given me an advantage of getting to have multiple spots in my stroke tweaked making me a better swimmer. I have also learned what it means to learn from other people and always be open to improvement.
I love to cheer on my teammates! I love watching my teammates progress in the sport they love as well as laughing with them and getting there as a team. I swam for Fort Wayne swim team from 2018 to 2020 which is a level 4 team and has been named a Silver Medallion Club by USA Swimming in 2020 and they have Golden Goggle winning coaches on their staff. Unfortunately, my freshmen year of high school I was diagnosed with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome which lead to three surgeries between 2020 and 2021, two of which consisted of first rib resections and tenectomies. I have been working on getting strength back the past year and a half and after being told I may not swim again, I am proud to say I am back in the pool ready for my senior year! I will be entering events this fall as an unattached swimmer with the goal of meeting the current time standards for my graduating class. The events I will be competing in will include 50 free, 100 breast, and 200 Im. My goal is to swim in college, study fitness or kinesiology, ultimately coaching swim and developing the next generation of swimmers!
I’m also very active in my church. I am a student trainer for my high school football team. I am a member of the National Honor Society as well. When I’m not in the pool, I love to hang out with my friends, watch swimming videos and of course eat!
I’m very competitive and want to do my very best every swim! Swimming has helped me with working hard, being a better person, and what it’s like being on a team that will succeed and fail with you. I can’t wait to be part of a college team that I can help succeed and help make my dreams come true! Thank you for taking time to read my profile, I’d love to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Tori Nichles
