I'm Madison Harris and am someone who has a strong value system, believes in supporting my team and has a strong desire to help others. This aligns with my TAP athletic profile of knight and musketeer. I am determined, like to ask questions, and being challenged and engaged with my parents, teachers, coaches, and other important adults in my life. I love to swim and teach younger swimmers on my club and summer teams because it is important to me to help those who are younger. That's why I volunteer to support the young swimmers on my summer team. I have been a competitive swimmer for nine years. Over that time, I've grown as a person and a swimmer. Physically, I am 6'0 feet tall and have a wingspan of 78 1/2 inches. Mentally, I have learned that even when the practices have been hard, I persevere. As a teammate, I like to encourage and support my fellow swimmers to do their best. I like feeling valued by my team.
A list of my swim achievements are that I've qualified for the Junior Olympics every year except one with my former team, Machine. I've qualified for NCSA in Orlando, Florida. The last two years, I've qualified for States. Last year, I won MVP for my age group with my club team, Bayside Aquatics.
I like to focus on the future. I understand that what has happened is in the past. I learn from my setbacks and use it as motivation for improvement. Once I overcome a setback, it tends to build my confidence. I haven't always been open to new things; but I have learned that I will never know if I like something, unless I try it.
My goal is to become an architectural engineer. I selected this major because I have always enjoyed putting things together, from puzzles and household items to engineering kits. I enjoy doing this with my dad. It's a great bonding activity with him. In ninth grade, I did a genealogy report about my family. I learned that on both sides of my family, math is a strong connector. Both of my grandfathers were good at math, my maternal grandfather had a masters in math and my paternal grandfather had a masters in engineering. I guess, I get it naturally.
