Although my education comes first, I love to swim. I am very dedicated to succeeding in both.
For as long as I remember I have loved being in the water. My parents took me to my first water babies class when I was three months old, and they say that since then I have spent more time under the water than above. I love swimming because it is both an individual event where I am chasing my own times, and it is also being part of a team, sharing the same goals, and supporting and cheering each other. My swim friends have become my swim family. Loving the water as much as I do. The best feeling in the world is achieving a goal that I worked hard to reach. I am so excited to see what is ahead of me and enjoy every moment of moving forward.
When I lived in North Carolina, I volunteered for Mama's House, which is a charity which gives clothes, food, toys and more to families in need. We then moved to Minnesota a little over two years ago. Two summers I volunteered as an assistant swim instructor for the YMCA for a total of 62 hours, and at the end of last year me and my sister ran a food drive for our community's food bank. We were able to place boxes in many businesses around town and we managed to collect 228 pounds of food in just a few weeks. I also help with concessions for my swim team. I now have a job as a supervisor at a local pizza place where I enjoy working with friends around swim practices.
As I am a sophomore this year, I was invited to apply to the Minnesota Honors Society, and I was one of the six people in my grade to be accepted. I have also competed in Knowledge Bowl meets both this year and last, and I am part of my school's River Watch group.
When I graduate high school, I want to go to college in order to get a bachelor's degree. Although I am not sure what job I want, I would like to take classes in business, economics, finance, or accounting. I have always liked the idea of working with others as a team.
