I started swimming when I was about six years old, and since then, it has been an important part of my life. The people I swim with everyday have become my family and I could not imagine my life without them or the sport itself. I started swimming because my dad signed me up at a young age to stay in shape. I am glad he did because I have learned things about myself and about life that I could have never learned without swimming. For example, I learned how to keep going even when it gets difficult, how to learn from my mistakes, and how to never get down on myself even if I didn’t do the best I could have. I also learned how to dream big, how to manage my time, how to treat others and myself, and how to appreciate all that is given to me.
I still have many goals for my athletic and academic futures. I wish to finish high school with many college credits, to rank in the top 10% of my class, and to manage a 4.0 GPA. There will, however, be many obstacles, but I believe I will get past them with the support and guidance I have had over the past nine years of swimming. I am a good problem-solver, critical thinker, and always love a challenge. In the future, I hope to take these skills and many more to use in my college and adult careers.
