2023 SpotlightPersonal Statement
Hi, My name is Maddie Hopkins. I am currently a Junior at Old Bridge High School in Old Bridge, NJ. I swim for the YMCA of Greater Monmouth County, as as well the Old Bridge High School swim team, and my summer recreation team. I have been swimming competitively for 6 years after doing competitive dance for 6 years. I always put 100% effort into all I do, and swimming is no exception. Since I started later than many of my teammates, I wanted to train hard to be at the top level in my club. I put the work in, went to my practices, attended dryland and weight training, and welcomed the feedback from my coaches and peers to help me get to where I am today. I have been on the varsity level of my high school team since freshman year and have been continually recognized as a Division All-Star, All- Conference member and high point scorer for the team. In addition, I just broke my own High School record for the 500 Freestyle, and I was part of the record holding 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle relay teams.
I believe my strong work ethic, competitive nature, continuous desire to improve, collaboration and humility have been integral in forming me into the athlete I am today.
I am looking for a school that would be both academically and athletically challenging. This would allow me the opportunity to pursue my education in the healthcare field, while challenging myself athletically as part of a team.
