There are three main things that I am looking for in a school: diversity, location, and academics. Diversity is especially important to me because I went to a predominantly white high school and because of that I sometimes felt alone or left out. Additionally, my school did not teach much about black history, especially in this country, they kind of brushed over it. I think it is a very important part of what built this country to what it is today and the problems happening now. Diversity allows for better learning because students can learn from each other. That also ties into academics, good grades are important to my family and I, and going to a school that can help me achieve and maintain those grades is essential. Location is also a key part in selecting a school. I want to stay in the northeast where there are seasons in a preferred medium size school. Whether the school is in the city or not, is not as big a factor but being close to nature is always a plus.
After finishing my first degree I would like to go on to a Medical school. I like helping others and think that medicine will be a good fit for me. I have wanted to go into medicine since I was a child because it helps save lives and can make a difference in so many people. I have always been inspired by doctors and what they can do, and I hope to be able to do that as well. When I was young, I wanted to be a pediatrician, but now after knowing how extensive the field is I’m not sure. Being a Pediatrician is my first choice but being a OBGYN or Psychologist are also options. It would be great to be a black OBGYN because there is a shortage of them and the death rate between persons of color and their babies are way higher than other races and I would love to be able make a difference and try to change that. Psychology has been a recent interest of mine. I want to know how the brain works and why people do what they do. Additionally, mental illness has been rising especially in teens and I want to know why.
