My name is Shea Gillespie. I am in grade 12 at St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Barrie Ontario.
I am an honor roll student who always strives to do my best in school and in all aspects of my life. My favorite subjects in school are math and science, I hope to pursue a career in the medical field once I graduate from University.
I am the youngest of four children, who has also participated in organized hockey, cheerleading, soccer, dance and volleyball but swimming has been my true passion. I have been a member of the Barrie Trojans Swim Club since I was 7 years old. This will be my 10th season as a club swimmer. I am also a member of my high school swim team.
Throughout my swimming career I have competed in all events, however the past few seasons I have really started to focus on distance events. My favorite stroke is freestyle, I enjoy all long-distance events and open water events. I also race the individual medley events and truly love when I am able to compete with my teammates as part of a relay team.
Swimming is a very big part of my life, this year I have also acquired my instructor certification, standard first aid and CPR and my NLS certification.
When I am not busy at the pool, I also volunteer at my school and in my local community. As a peer mentor for grade nine students and a student ambassador for mental health at my high school, I am able to support other students and help them to be successful. This has been a very rewarding experience for me. I am also an active volunteer with Special Olympics and the Law Enforcement Torch Run, where I have helped fundraise at a number of different events over the past six years.
I hope to continue my studies and also my swimming at a collegiate level, while still maintaining a good balance in my life.
