At the age of three, I started swimming and learning how to play the violin with my weekly lessons. As my skills and confidence grew, so did my love for both. I can't say it has been an easy journey. It has definitely been a lot of hard work and self-discipline since both require a lot of methodical practice to improve my skills.
Being on swim team has taught me many things such as perseverance, dedication, commitment, time management, as well as prioritizing. It has taught me how to communicate and work well with others. Every coach that I've worked with has added improvement and knowledge to my sport, and most importantly taught me how to welcome constructive criticism.
These skills have crossed over into my academic studies. I will be pursuing a degree in STEM. Attending a Japanese Immersion school increased my interest in the Japanese culture. I am also involved in the Speech & Debate club, Art club, and STEM club. I am currently the President of STEM club. My weekends are filled with swim meets and being part of the Tacoma Youth Symphony, in which I play Violin I.
I also have many other hobbies, which includes sewing. One of my proudest moments was being part of a group of girls that made a quilt for the 'Wounded Warrior Project'. The quilt is now being displayed in Eugene OR. I received a medal for my part. In 2014, we made 500 pillowcases for the army to be given to the individuals being deployed in Afghanistan.
I am serious in my commitment and willingness to work and prepare for the many challenges of my journey to reach my full potential in my sport, music, and academic studies.
