Hello there. I am from McFarland, Wisconsin, a small suburb of Madison, Wisconsin. A while back a woman by the name Angie O’Donnell started coaching the local club team, the McFarland Spartan Sharks. Angie set the tone for our team—tough practices mixed with high expectations, but a lot of fun as well. Angie passed away in 2011 and was the heart and soul of McFarland swimming. You will still hear her favorite practice phrases in our aquatic center. “Every day counts” and “Get comfortable being uncomfortable” are my favorites that I rely on to keep me going during hard practices.
I just finished my sophmore year at McFarland High School and still love the team aspect of the sport. I really enjoyed focusing not only on what I could achieve, but also knowing if I met my goals, it would benefit the team overall. It was excellent motivation. Even though my best events are as a freestyle sprinter, I will swim whatever my coach needs me to swim. Fly, backstroke, breaststroke, free, IM, I will do whatever my coach needs to benefit the team in becoming a great success. The result of our teamwork this year was another second place finish at state (I was so proud of my teammates!!) The most important piece of our success was that the girls and I were more focused on having fun and getting best times than being the top team and winning. That was just a bonus.
I know I want to continue to swim in college. I am looking for a coach that will challenge me and get to know who I am so I can achieve my goals. It’s just as important to me to get a great education. I have not decided specifically what career I would like to pursue, but I am leaning towards the Health Sciences.
I appreciate your time reviewing my profile and look forward to being a possible asset to your team and to your school overall.
