Sometimes the failures in life lead to the greatest success stories. It seems cliché, but nothing has been more motivating or more fueling than for me than when I fall short of a goal or a personal expectation. It’s a feeling that sticks with me and a pain that I never forget, a pain I never want to experience ever again.
When I was a freshman, I experienced just the type of failure I speak of in the above paragraph when I narrowly missed qualifying for the Wisconsin State Championships. I missed by one spot.
Through the pain and through the tears I decided then to use the negative emotions as motivation. I was going to work harder than anyone else and become the best distance swimmer I could be. As a result, the very next year I qualified for the Wisconsin State High School Championships in the 200 and 500 free events and I was also named to the NCSA Junior National Team (for club swimming) in the 200 back.
Fortunately, I am a part of two amazing swim programs at Waukesha South High School and Waukesha Express. Both teams have taught me that success comes from teamwork, commitment, sacrifice and even failure. They helped to build my leadership skills and have become my second family. It’s that team and family atmosphere I’m hoping to find in the next phase of my swimming career.
In addition to swimming, I am also a member of my high school’s Track and Field team. My sophomore year I was part of the 4 x 800 relay team that made it to the Division I Wisconsin State High School Championships. I also enjoy competing in multisport events at the regional and national levels. I competed in the USA Triathlon (USAT) National High School Championships, USAT Age Group Nationals and qualified for the World Age Group competition in August 2020. Competing in triathlon has been instrumental in developing my skills as a distance runner and swimmer.
I’m intelligent, competitive, motivated and mentally tough with a killer work ethic. I’m looking for a collegiate program that aligns with my athletic and academic goals and where I can make an immediate positive impact.
