I'm Emily Hatseras. I am going to be a Senior at Valparaiso High School in Indiana. I've been involved in many sports, including volleyball, softball, and gymnastics, all competitively. I played one year of volleyball in high school and then transitioned to tennis spring of my freshman year. I began playing tennis at the age of 15. I started playing USTA tournaments just several months after picking up a tennis racquet for the first time because I wanted to be the best player I could be in a short amount of time, compared to my opponents and teammates. My team experiences with club volleyball and softball have taught me how to work positively with my teammates toward our goals. Although tennis can be viewed as more of an individual sport, I have been able to proudly use my past experiences to work alongside my high school varsity team to represent our high school as best possible. I look forward to using these same skills in my collegiate experiences.
My freshman season was canceled due to Covid. My Sophomore year, I played varsity doubles. In my junior year, I played three singles with a record of 21-3. I anticipate playing 1 singles my Senior year.
Academics are very important to me, and I try to make sure that I stay on top of my grades. My favorite studies are IB Sports, Exercise, and Health Science; and AP Psychology. I want to be an Athletic Director and study a mix of Sports Management, Business, and Exercise Science in college. I have had many different coaches in my sports career, and my future goal is to be a positive and emotionally healthy mentor to young athletes. I am involved in many clubs, including SAAC (Student Athletic Advisory Committee), where my varsity coach selected me to represent girls' tennis. I am also involved in p7, which is a student-led club, focusing on the Bible and God, and NHS. For my tennis regimen, I hit 5-6 days per week. I hit at Lakeland Academy in Niles, MI 2-3 times a week and 3 other coaches/hitting partners in Northwest Indiana. A minimum of twice per week, I work with my strength and conditioning coach. I also try to participate in 2-3 USTA tournaments per month.
In conclusion, I am a dedicated, disciplined, and hard-working athlete. I am devoted to playing tennis at a collegiate level and working to my full potential.
