I have been playing tennis more seriously since I was 10. When I was younger, I played many different sports like soccer, skiing, and softball, but chose tennis. My dad is a certified tennis pro and coached for many years in Canada. He has taught and helped me through the technical, tactical, and mental parts of the game. I have my one-handed backhand partly thanks to his patience and encouragement. Additionally, I can hit lefty overheads. I was on the public high school tennis team for 8th and 9th grade, playing #1 singles, and overall I lost only one match. In the second season, we were able to qualify for states. For 10th grade, I transferred to an online school and have not been able to play on a high school team. As much as I miss it, I find that my time is better focused, and I am able to manage my own schedule. For the past 4 years, I have woken up at 4:30 in the morning, 3-4 days a week, during the months that I cannot play outside. I live in an area where it is extremely hard to get courts and there are not any programs close by, so I get up so that I can still play during the winter.
I have long been excited to join a college team, to be able to be surrounded by teammates and coaches who are helping and rooting for one another. Tennis is often a very individual sport, and the experience and camaraderie in a team are frequently missed when one constantly plays by themselves. I am very excited to play more doubles as I live where it normally takes about 2+ hours to tournaments, so taking another weekend to play double is difficult. In college, I hope to play for a team where I make deep connections with my teammates and coaches. I am hardworking and persistent both academically and athletically. Regarding majors, I am still exploring various academic fields, but as of right now, I want to pursue my interests in engineering and chemistry.
Thank you for your time.
