My collegiate goals and aspirations involve not only my hopes to play and excel on the tennis team, but also to pursue a pathway that will lead me to a career in the medical field. Specifically, I would love to enter a career in pediatric oncology. I strongly believe that my natural drive, focus, and determination will allow me to properly balance collegiate tennis and academics.
I have always been a team player. I am a very cooperative, accepting, supportive, and overall kind person when it comes to being around and working with others. I strive to do nothing less than better every aspect of a team that I get the honor of being a part of. Along with the qualities that make me compatible to working with a team, I also possess qualities such as focus, dedication, and attentiveness that may seem more individual to me, but are also crucial factors to contribute to a team. Being a varsity captain and number one singles on my high school tennis team, I know that a lot of the younger girls look up to me as an older, more experienced player. I need to be a good role model and make the right choices at all times, and I absolutely trust that I have done a great job so far.
I am unique from other recruits because I truly have a passion for tennis. Yes, that sounds cliché, but there is more substance to the word passion, for me, when it comes to tennis. I have recently been through a lot of personal and family struggles throughout the past two years, which have caused my love for tennis to grow even more. Tennis has been with me through it all, even when I felt like I was completely alone. Tennis was and still is to this day my outlet for any emotion or adversity in my life. I am now more resilient and strong than I have ever been. I have been on the Division I varsity tennis team at Barnstable High School since 8th grade. I went from playing second doubles, to second singles, to first singles beginning in my sophomore year. I was a varsity captain and number one singles during my junior year, and I will be during my senior year as well. This year, I will also be a senior captain on the legendary Division I BHS varsity volleyball team, which I have been on since my sophomore year.
In terms of academics, I am an extremely strong student. I have been on the honor roll for all of my five years at Barnstable, and I have a GPA of 4.0. For all five years at Barnstable I will have been on the tennis and volleyball teams as well, which have allowed me to learn balance and time management skills with academics and sports. I am a part of the National Honor Society, and my volleyball team has won regional academic awards every year. I am a very hardworking and dedicated student, which I know is one of the most important aspects of being a student-athlete, especially at the collegiate level.
Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my profile.
Sincerely,
Olivia Berler
