The summer before my freshman year of high school marked a turning point of my life. After eight years of competitive gymnastics, a sport that was part of my childhood was now being shared with a new sport. I was passionate with gymnastics but, my burning desire to tennis won over my heart. Tennis fulfilled a new passion I was searching for and in the summer of 2021 I decided that tennis was gonna be my one and only sport that I would dedicate myself too. Tennis not only brought back the rush of excitement and love for athletic competition but also had mental challenges I craved. The moment I stepped onto the court I felt the freedom that had been missing.
Over the past three years, I have dedicated myself to mastering tennis. I sacrificed long hours to the sport, focusing on improving my skills, enhancing my abilities, and expanding my knowledge of the game. My flexibility, strength, and discipline habits from gymnastics helped me succeed into a strong player, and I was honored to be the varsity tennis captain for my team. This role allowed me to embrace my skills as both a leader and a supportive teammate. I truly take great pride in uplifting my teammates, whether on the court or off the court in our everyday lives.
I believe that being coachable is a crucial aspect for growth, and I take constructive criticism with an open mind and no hard feelings. My goal has always been to outdo myself, both mentally and physically. I strive to be one of the hardest-working and most mentally resilient recruits. I know that dedication is a key for success and I approach both my athletic and academic take with equal focus. I maintain a high GPA while taking college-level courses, preparing myself for the challenges ahead in my career.
In addition to my commitment to tennis, I actively participate in various school clubs, organizations, sororities, student council and most importantly I take part in my mothers small business endeavors. I create all her digital marketing and assist her with all her sales. These experiences have not only enhanced my high school journey but allowed me to connect with other people in meaningful ways. Being fully bilingual in Spanish and English has also given me a unique perspective, and I truly hope to inspire others who may not see themselves represented in sports like tennis.
As I look forward towards my career and future, I am eager to attend a college that challenges me both academically and athletically. I am open to all opportunities that will allow me to grow as a student athlete. As a Latina, I recognize the importance of representation in sports, and I aspire to be a role model for others who look like me. I am excited about the journey ahead and the potential to inspire future generations through my passion for tennis.
