Hello! My name is Kate Fortney. I've been playing tennis for fun and participating in group lessons since I could hold a racquet. I started seriously focusing on developing my skills during my first year of high school. Since then, my year-round coach has reworked my footwork, grips, stroke technique, and serve. It took over a year to build solid muscle memory on my new technique, but it's been worth it! Tennis is my passion, and I want to continue developing all aspects of my game. I drive out of town to practice and play indoors in the winter, and take every opportunity to play outdoors when our WI weather cooperates. During the past 3 years, I've enhanced my game by working on speed, strength, conditioning, and working with an IMG mental performance coach. During the past year I've started working with a former Ohio State player on game strategy and it's enhanced my game immensly.
I love setting goals and working toward them on and off the court, including academics. Our high school is rigorous, and I put a lot of effort into maintaining a good GPA and being a good student. I do an excellent job of balancing my academic demands with the significant amount of time I put into tennis training and time with friends. Determination, grit, hard work, supportiveness, and kindness are qualities I will bring to any team I play on and everything I do in life.
