I loved sports my whole life. I knew I wanted to be a three sport athlete in high school, so in my freshman year I chose to join the tennis team, which I had not taken lessons in since I was young. I had grown up playing basketball and softball on travel leagues and thought I would continue those in high school. I played on the freshman tennis team to start but then quickly advanced to Junior Varsity. My team won conferences and I was proud to be part of that. I realized I really was falling in love with this new sport. I knew I had much more to learn so I asked my dad if I could start taking lessons at my local tennis club. When he said yes I was so excited! I have been consistently practicing and my goal for my junior year was to be on varsity. I was so proud of my accomplishment because my high school's tennis team is recognized as one of the top programs in the state.
Tennis has taught me determination in accomplishing my goals. I learned that when I really want something, I will strive to get there even if it takes a lot of time and energy. My goal academically in high school is to finish my senior year with high honors and in tennis to qualify for the state meet. Continuing my tennis career at the college level is my ultimate goal athletically.
Most of all, tennis has taught me to work hard and believe in myself. I'm so greatful to have met so many like minded girls that want to work hard for our team. My coaches have always believed in me and I feel so lucky to be able to have great relationships with all of them. I also am very lucky for my family for supporting me and encouraging me to further my tennis career.
