I distinctly remember at least three meets last season where I finished the 400 then immediately walked to the 100 meter start, then the long jump pit, then the 200. It was tough, but I always put it on myself. During team meetings, when the coach would ask me if I could do a relay or an event that he wanted to try me in, I would always say yes, even if it gave me four events. If he gives me the opportunity to race, I will. My goal in high school and, hopefully, college is run as long as I can and as best as I can. If my coach tells me to run four events, I will run those four events, even if I'm completely exhausted by the fourth. If a teacher wants me to write for a literary magazine, I will write for that literary magazine. I will take the opportunities I am given because I won't be able to sleep at night if I don't. I've heard so many stories of people who didn't take the chance because they thought they would fail. With that mentality, their talent and skill went down the garbage disposal before the fruits of their labor were ripe. That isn't what I want out of my track career. If given the opportunity, I will take it. As Teddy Roosevelt once said, "Do what you can, where you are, with what you have."
