Personal Statement

My name is Lindsay Maier, I am 16 years old, and I live in Kelowna, BC, Canada. I am a grade 12 student at Kelowna Secondary School who works hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA while training as a high-performance athlete on the track and in the gym.

I enjoy being part of the leadership community at school and helping to facilitate events that bring students together. I’ve taken on key leadership roles in organizing events such as the Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament and the Western Canadian Basketball Tournament.

I enjoy being active and have always participated in a variety of sports. I was an Irish dancer from age four to fifteen and competed internationally. I work as a lifeguard and swim instructor and volunteer as a Track and Field coach with our club’s Junior Development program.

It wasn’t until grade nine that I began to take Track and Field seriously when I unexpectedly took the gold medal in the 400m, placed sixth in the 200m and eighth in the 100m at the BC High School Track & Field Championships. The following year I placed first in the 300m Hurdles at the 2017 BC High School Track & Field Championships which met standard for the BC Team. I went on to compete at the Canadian National Youth Track and Field Championships in Brandon, Manitoba and placed sixth in both the 300m Dash and 200m Hurdles.

Sprinting and Hurdling are my passion and my goal is to earn a scholarship to run for a College or University while pursuing a career in Sports Medicine. I’ve experienced some injuries in the last couple of years and have had to take time off from sport but overcoming these setbacks have only made me stronger and even more determined to succeed!
