Personal Statement

Hello! I'm Minji, a current senior at Little Flower Academy High School in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I started pole vaulting in spring 2022, and quickly fell in love with the event. Having a gymnastics background, I enjoy the technical aspect of vaulting and the specific strength training and drills that come with it. Although practices have been consistently limited due to inclement weather, I have been working on building my core strength at home and maintaining my fitness by attending running practices. I am a well-rounded athlete with experience in Long Jump, as well as the 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, and cross-country.

My highest vault back in July 2022 was 8', and my goal for the beginning of the 2023 outdoor season is 10'. I have been working hard to perfect my plants and inverts, and currently train with bungees at 9, 10, and 11 feet. In the new year, I will be participating in sprint and long jump practices to build up my speed and take-off strength. I am also looking to get back into competing the 400m, and am truly excited to see what new experiences and PBs the upcoming season will hold!

School-wise, I am looking for a flexible, community-driven school that will not only support me as a student athlete, but also provide me with unique programs in my fields of interest: Cognitive Science, Linguistics, and Mathematics. I am just as passionate about my academics as I am with my athletics, and I am a motivated and inquisitive student who values interdisciplinary education and research opportunities. I currently have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 34 cumulative ACT score (35 superscored), and have consistently challenged myself with varied courses in the sciences and humanities. Outside of school, I enjoy working and volunteering with kids, watching cool linguistics videos, reading, and taking part in Model UN conferences, as well as parliamentary-style debate.

Please contact me by email through [email protected] or through my Instagram handle, @pv.minji. Thank you!
