Hi, my name is Sabrina Leto and I am a junior at Valley Christian High School. I am looking forward to participating in track (100m, 200m, pole vault, long jump) and field hockey in my senior year and would like to continue with both of these in college. I am a dedicated hard worker and push through challenges to achieve my goals.
I was a competitive gymnast for 9 years and in level 8 which developed my hard work ethic and gives me a strong foundation for track. I started running sprints in 7th grade alongside gymnastics and then in 8th grade focused on just track. My freshman year I ran 100m and 200m; sophomore year I started pole vault as well but the season was cut short with COVID. This year, I have also added long jump to the field events in which I compete and don’t have a lot of intensive training on jump technique so I feel I have a lot of untapped potential in my jump length. I have had a brief introduction to weight room training throughout high school and I believe with more I can significantly increase my strength and speed.
This year my school does not have pole vault so I had to go to my track practice and then right after drive to another location for pole vault practice. I have a rigorous schedule and manage my homework. I have not been able to work on my pole vault technique as much as I’d like because the season was short last year and I have been doing two practices every day in the season this year, but I plan to work with a private coach over the summer. I am open to going to camps for pole vault, long jump and speed/strength training to improve my technique.
I plan to major in psychology and more specifically I have an interest in sports psychology. Having worked with a sports psychologist it inspired me and I feel gives me an advantage in track as it is largely mental.
Ideally would like to attend a medium to large school. I am open minded about where I go to college and want to find one where I can receive a good education and participate in track. My goal is to make a positive impact on the team, be supportive of my teammates and provide leadership.
