In this life there are those who are born with talent and those who must sweat and grind everyday just to achieve it. Some people are born into lives that they, somehow, take for granted. Then there are those who take what they have been given, and make something even better because they have earned it.
Sports have always been a part of my life and given me a sense of purpose. Over the years I have played many sports from volleyball to basketball , but 5th grade Field Day changed the trajectory of my life. My mother saw me race the other kids, and could not believe how fast I was. To be honest I was not convinced at the time that I could be a great runner. I was born with asthma and this caused a lot of problems with breathing. As a kid who was on breathing treatments from a very young age, I did not see running as a possibility. But my mother, being the stubborn mother she is, urged and pushed me to do track convinced it would make my lungs stronger. In sixth grade I began to compete in Cross Country and Track and Field and fell in love with the sport.
That's were it all begin. I have always competed in the 200, Sprint Med, 4x200, 4x400 and most recently the 4x100. I ventured into indoor track to keep conditioned and in competition in the 60m. As an athlete I have incurred some injuries like many athlete, however I am happy to report that with the support of my family, Coaches, Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer I am on track in my season and determined to excel at the State Championships this May. I have learned how quickly an injury can derail your athletic aspirations, but through that recovery I gained more determination and insight into my own athletic future as well as my academic future. These experiences have allowed me to take a serious look into Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training as a career. I have BIG DREAMS and I fully intend to run toward them with all that I have.
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." ~Hebrews 12:1
