I started competing in track before junior high and fell in love with the sport. My goal since then has always to be a college track and field athlete. Unfortunately, after a promising junior high career on the state runner-up varsity team and a freshman season where I qualified for the state meet in 4 events and medalled in 2, I suffered an injury that kept me on the sidelines in both track and soccer during my sophomore year. This was a really difficult time for me, as I knew sophomore year is a very important year for getting noticed by college track coaches.
As a junior, with my injury healed, I decided to leave club soccer behind to focus my attention on track. During the high school season I worked hard to regain my strength and my speed. I focused on hurdles and took up triple jump for the first time. I qualified for state in both events and made the podium in the hurdles. I was awarded MVP and named my school's female athlete of the year. My coach thought that my athleticism and ability to learn techniques quickly would make me a good multi-event athlete and so I began to train as a heptathlete. I completed two heptathlons this past summer ... the first I have ever done. I did well relative to the other athletes in the fields, but I was not satisfied. I know that I can improve my marks greatly. Now that I am fully healthy, I can train harder than ever before. My goals for my senior year are to compete at New Balance Indoor in the pentathlon and achieve all-American status and to improve all my marks in the outdoor season and score over 4600 points in the heptathlon.
I love a challenge. I choose a rigorous academic schedule every year and set high goals for my academic, athletic and artistic achievements. I am looking for a school that can challenge me both academically and on the track. I feel I can be an asset to my college track team because of my leadership skills, my ability to work well with others and my drive and determination to be the best that I can be.
