I always grew up running, not knowing id find a love for it. In 8th grade I found that spark that opened my eyes to Track & Field. Sadly, I didn’t run that year due to a broken clavicle, but I made sure to go to every meet and support my teammates.
Winning GISA 2AA State Championship as a freshman really made me push harder for bigger goals because I knew I could do it. i knew in my heart that it was me versus the clock and that was it. However, it became hard to run my sophomore year due to other sports. my season would start mid-March With not much coaching and mostly self-teaching, at state that year after 3 titles I felt I met a part of my goal, but I am still determined to accomplish more. Ive had my down falls in the 2019 outdoor season I had a hurt knee. Which made it impossible for me to run without having major pain shoot through my leg. I wanted to give up, but I kept running and trying everything in my reach to heal myself. Once state rolled around I still had this pain in my knee and I was so upset. I hadn't done how i wished i would've after all my many years, I was angry. On the last day of state I told my teammates that I wasnt going to give up and I was going to push through and run the 4x400m with them not matter what place we got I know we were going to try our best. I went to a trainers and iced my knee before the race (which they did not recommend) at the start of the race I was nervous but determined. The gun blew from the race official and I took off feeling great and 200m in I lost a spike and had to finish what I started. And boy did it burn running on that track, I handed off the baton and collapsed. When my dad told me I ran a 58 split I burst into tears and knew god put his hands on me and showed me that through all the pain it was worth it. During summer of 2018 I went to duke for training, it opened my eyes to a new perspective and taught me a lot I could bring back and teach my teammates. Being Team captain has given me a lot of responsibilities, like helping my team get better and fundraising for new uniforms when we had none. It made me grow as a student athlete. With the help of my teammates we all grow together and learn great qualities like; commitment, leadership, determination, and the love for one another. I would love to believe I have the qualities to run on a college team and make an impact on your team and build a relationship with my teammates to form a bond that will help us get stronger along the way. As a 4 sport-athlete and 6 time-captain, I know I can make a great leader on your team and have the indefinite determination to be great.
I've committed to wingate university
