Alyssa Leland '21 Recruiting Profile

Hello, my name is Alyssa Leland. I currently am a junior attending school at Prairie Heights High School in LaGrange, Indiana. This year would have been my third full high school track season, however Indiana schools are no longer in session for the remainder of the year due to the recent pandemic. I am the oldest of three kids, and family is very important to me. Along with family being important to me, as is my faith in Christ. I am the only person in my family to compete in track, and my fascination for running started when I was only a toddler.

I enjoy competing in track for my school Prairie Heights. I compete in pole vault, 400, and 4x4 relay. Pole vault however, has always been my strong suit and my main event. I am the top scorer of three vaulters at my school, and place in many meets. Aside from competing in events I also enjoy the strong bond my teammates and I have. Being on a positive minded, and encouraging team is very important in my eyes, and I am happy to say that I have been part of it for my entire high school career. My personal goal for each season is to increase my PR every single year, so far I have done so successfully. I am very strong-willed, and determined to complete my goals. Having my junior year of track  cancelled due to the recent pandemic was an upset to my personal goal, however I plan to come back strong once again my senior year. 

Academically I strive to challenge myself and take higher level classes. I have completed multiple AP and dual credit courses at school. I have taken college courses through a local college called Trine University. I have also completed a course through IU. At this point in my life I am motivated to pursue a career in teaching. When in college I plan to major in education. I have taken two years of cadet teaching, and have been given the amazing opportunity to experience what teaching in a classroom is like. I am enrolled to take Education Professions my senior year, which will also hopefully gain me experience and knowledge in the teaching profession. Being able to compete in track while in college would be amazing. I have no hopes of ending my track career my senior year, and I wish to pursue it further. 

Throughout all of this my major motivation for athletic and academics like many of my teammates is my faith in Christ. I am thankful to be able to put forth effort every single day due to the gifts he has blessed me with. Despite any result in my meets or academic scores I honor Christ in everything I do.
