My name is Zion Ateba, I am an avid athlete and have been training to pursue my dream to go to the Olympics since I was 9. I was inspired to start track and field in the 2012 Olympic Games when I watched Jessica Ennis win the heptathlon. I knew immediately that this was something that I wanted to do, and commit myself to for as long as I can. This ignited a passion that I have now had for just under 8 years.
Initially I started as a sprinter, doing a few jumps every so often, competing in events that my club needed me for. I am very flexible and happy to try all events, hence why I would like to start doing heptathlons and multi eventing as I embrace and enjoy all events of athletics.
Without any high jump training, in 2019 and recently in 2021, I managed to jump 1.61 cm. Whilst I love high jump and would consider it as my main event, I have also grown a liking towards hurdles and long jump in particular. I believe that with the right training at a prestigious college, I can improve on my times, heights and distances, to become shaped into a successful athlete.
My aim is to combine my passion for athletics with my fascination for academics, in particular Law and Politics. I am a really hard-working student, this is shown by my GCSE grades of 8s and 9s which has been recognised as I am currently an academic scholar. I trust that I will use my organisation skills well to incorporate both aspects which are both paramount for me.
