Hi! My name is Sara Gerbereux and I am currently a junior at Maryvale Preparatory School near Towson, Maryland. I have always enjoyed running whether it was on the track or in soccer. I think part of that passion has come from my parents and older sister who all competed at the college level. After several “lost” seasons due to COVID, I finally was able to finish a traditional schedule last year as a Sophomore. My main event was the 400m. I was the second leg on the 4x4 at Penn Relays, running a 61 split and helping Maryvale win our heat. I also finished 7th in the competitive IAAM conference with a time of 1:02.86. During the year I also began to race the 800m. It was a new challenge that I have really enjoyed. My best time was 2:32, but I believe with more experience, I can significantly improve on that mark. This past summer I decided to fully focus on track, hoping to run at the college level. Instead of playing soccer, which I was on the Varsity team as a Sophomore, I joined the Cross Country team. While 5k is distance I had never completed in the past, the training and endurance will certainly benefit my middle distance races. I have set goals of a sub-60 400 and 2:25 800 this year, which I believe are attainable through hard work.
