My name is Alexis Miller, and I am a versatile student-athlete with a global perspective and a passion for both academics and athletics. I was born and raised in New York City before moving to Tokyo at the age of nine and then to Hong Kong four years later. These global experiences have honed my adaptability and instilled a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and experiences, characteristics that set me apart from other student-athletes.
My athletic journey has been broad and varied, encompassing skiing, tennis, competitive volleyball, running, and cross-country. My determination and competitive spirit led me to win the Kanto Plains Cross-Country Championship in 8th grade, a moment that marked a significant milestone in my athletic development. However, my sports journey was interrupted by the COVID-19 restrictions imposed in Hong Kong, leading to a hiatus in my athletic progression.
Upon repatriation to the United States, I seized the opportunity to resume my passion for running and cross-country at Deerfield. Despite not having competed for a few years, I found success running as the #1 runner for the Deerfield team and earning All New England Honors. These experiences not only reaffirmed my athletic abilities but also facilitated invaluable friendships and camaraderie that made my transition to a new school incredibly fulfilling.
My involvement with the Deerfield Track & Field team added further depth to my athletic profile. Competing in multiple disciplines, from 4X100 Relays, 4X400 Relays, to 400m, 800m, and 1500m, I proved my versatility on the track. The season's highlight was our team's victory in the 4X400m for the Prep School Division at the Penn Relays. Recognizing my dedication, my teammates elected me as the Captain for the 2024 season, a role I am honored to undertake.
My ambitions extend beyond the track. Academically, I aim to nurture my intellectual curiosity and achieve excellence. I firmly believe in the balance between athletics and academics and uphold high standards in both. My ultimate collegiate goal is to explore an environment that nurtures both these aspects, helping me to maximize my academic achievement while also reaching my untapped potential in running.
In conclusion, I believe that my international background, athletic versatility, adaptability, and commitment to both academics and athletics differentiate me from other student-athletes. As a team captain and a globally aware individual, I bring unique perspectives and leadership skills to the table. I am eager to apply these qualities and experiences in a collegiate setting to further my personal growth while contributing positively to a team.
