Personal Statement

When I first joined track, I was in 7th grade and didn’t really know what to expect. Giving it a go, I came to discover one of my hidden talents. I actually did well in sprints. Another hidden talent I discovered in middle school was in 8th grade; hurdling. Trying this new race out earned me a first place.

Going into my Freshman year, I definitely knew I wanted to do track. The only dilemma I had was a prior commitment to dance team which happened to travel and compete the same season as track. I was ready to do what I could by going to every meet possible and still competing in dance. The first track meet I was unable to attend because I had a dance competition, but the second one I competed in I was 5th in the 100, 2nd in the 200, and 4th in the 100 mH. Sadly, that was the last day of track and school for 2020. I only got to run one meet which was super upsetting, but reminded me to give it your all everytime because you never know when your last time may be.

Sophomore year gave me mixed emotions. Originally, Elko High School, kept us all virtual telling us sports will most likely be canceled. Hearing this news broke my heart because I thought I was going to have another track season stripped away, but before it even started. I decided to go back on the competition dance team because that was the only sport guaranteed to have a season. Come Spring, our sports were allowed to start back up, giving us a season of 6 weeks; 5 for me because I missed the 1st meet for dance again. I placed first in both sprints in all meets, setting PRs, and cutting off 1 second in the 100 and 2 seconds in the 200, I was ready to rock n roll for regionals. After working hard to prepare for regionals, our team got the news about a “huge” outbreak of COVID, shutting the school down and not allowing us to travel. Receiving the text that we weren’t going to regionals the night before we were supposed to leave, tore me to shreds. Our season ended abruptly once again, leaving our team confused and devastated.

My Junior year I qualified for state in the 3A division in the 100H and 300H.  During this season, my 100M PR was 13.20, 200M was 27.34, 100H was 17.00 and 300H was 48.58.

My Senior year, our girls team won state in the 3A, and competed in all 4 of my events, where I placed first in the 300H with a time of 44.84, second in the 200M in 25.85, third in the 100M in 12.74 and third in the 100H in 16.24, but my PR for the year was 16.22.
